It was a great time and I learned lots. Unfortunately, we could'nt break into the top 5 boats...and there were only 6 in the event

There are some good photo sequences of us in some ofthe more memorable moments of the races at the HYC web site:

Race 7, closing up on CAN 2 and SHEEP...we're furthest from the camera:
Closing on CAN 2

CAN 2 is low and slow, trying to soak down to the gate while we're ripping along...
Still Closing

Within 2 B.L.'s at the mark...
Closed

We'd go on to pass him on a split tack out to the left where the wind was. He parked near the top mark as we strolled past. He retired shortly after while we got real close to SHEEP in 4th before the wind died. They drifted over the line ahead of us

Mike.

Mike,

Nice pictures! I am wondering why your mast appears to have a ball on the top of it in this picture.

Is that the compensator weight?

Looks like a windex or burgee to me.

BINGO!

Due to the light & fluky conditions, I decided to use the old school technique of flying a mast head wind indicator in addition to the bridle fly I usually run. There was a time when such things were very common.
