Tradewinds - Sunday
It's a blustery morning here in Islamorada, which was not forecasted by anybody.
Best I can tell the first race is underway. It's hard to see out to the course through the rain.
Only 2 boats on the beach at the moment with their sails up. Must be making a fix or an adjustment.
The commaraderie must have been running high last night as many of the sailors were a smidge on the slow side pushing off the beach this morning. <img src=

The rain stings like bee bees upwind in 20 knots!
Thanks to the forecast, John and I powered up the rig this morning by standing up the mast and backing off the diamond wires. Nice. However, turns out that we must have been raked too much yesterday as the boat was a little more lively and pointed better today.
Yep. Trophies were awarded, and everybody packed up and left. Very sad.
Oh, you mean what happened with the racing today? <img src=

/> Rick will be writing a regatta story and posting it, with photos, on our home page tomorrow. Hopefully, Barb will be posting results either tonight or tomorrow. We're all kind of whupped right now.
Neither Barb nor I were out on the water, so all I have is secondhand information from sailors.
I DO know that there were conflicting opinions about whether there was more or less wind than Saturday. The report was for 20 knots and gusty, and, at least on shore, that seemed about right. A number of boats dropped out intermittently throughout the morning because they did not feel comfortable with the conditions.
Mark Herendeen got separated from his rented A-cat during a capsize, but he was picked up by Robbie Daniel and Enrique Rodriguez on their Capricorn F18 and returned to his boat.
That evened things out because earlier Enrique had fallen off the Capricorn when a trapeze line parted. Guess who picked him up and returned him to the Capricorn? It was Mark Herendeen. Like they say, what goes around comes around -- just not usually that soon. <img src=

I see shorts, a sunhat, beach chairs and a kid swimming.
Winter stinks.
Congrats to Mike Siau for getting the win against some tough competition. 204! 204! 204!
Great to see one of our youngsters doing so well.
Bitter sweet to know he will be beating me now.
Sure sounds like it was great sailing.
