What kind of main halyard set up should I use?

I am looking to replace my wire to rope main halyard on my 17' Supercat and was wondering what to use. What I have now is probably original 26 years ago. Should I replace it as is or go with something more Hi-tech like 1/4" spectra braid the whole length with a thimble spliced in one end? What do you guys think? Thanks, Mark.

On my SC20 we switched to a mast top hook and aussie ring. I would recommend that kind of system. It did take a little work to get the sail to go up easily but that was because I made a couple mistakes.
