Traction coating
I am looking into traction coating for rails for my Nacra 5.0 and I am wondering what you guys recommend. I don't want to go to those EVA liners or black tape listed in last year post. I preffer clear or white and something durible. West Marine sells grip tape but I heard it's not that grippy and wears quickly. I found MONSTER PAINT CLEAR TRACTION SPRAY 12 OZ and RE-DEK TRACTION SYSTEM 8 OZ from Murrays.
Did any of you has a experience with them? How long do they last, wear, get dirty etc? WHat is your preference? Is there something better, worth looking?

Is it better than Re-Dek? I have seen that tape before and heard that wears quickly and last only about 2 seasons. I am trying to compare it to other mentioned.
Andre,
I visited their website but there are so many tapes to look for. Could't find any with friction, no slip or grip keywords. Do you have any name, part number etc that will help me id what you have?
Dave,
Murrays does not sell white color tape anymore.
Adam,
My cat is 40 km away from where I live, the tape is in the trailer-box,
let you know the article-number this week, want to sail this week.
If I can't find it I will ask the sail-shop where I bought it.
And, yes, had a look at there website too, it is completely dedicated to
industrial and commercial clients, not user-friendly for people like us.

hi,
you might look at the 3M 'Safety-Walk' series of tapes.
here are the barefoot versions.

it's really a shame that we can't get the 3M white tape anymore cause it was great. don't buy the black stuff from Murray's cause it's gritty, not 3M, and doesn't look like it will hold up very long (i just bought some and i don't plan to use it.)
i found the 3M gray stuff(370)in a hardware store at smaller quantities. it's not gritty and has a texture that won't hurt bare feet. i hope to give it a try this spring.

You can purchase the 3M traction tape from their web site at this URL:

I used to carry two different sizes of white, grey, and black at my place of work, sold by the foot or by the roll. It was a pain to deal with so we switched to their pre-cut and packaged products.
Their pricing is for a full case qty. So you might see if there are others willing to purchase a roll from you to offset the cost.

Hope this is the same staff I rolled on my windsurfing board decade ago.
Pete, is it sharp or gritty? How long does it last?

This friction tape is for printing and converting industry where they need to add some tickness to idler rollers to keep paper from walking off rollers.

Arch, this one may work, it is for wet environment. I even found the clear one but is little pricey - $108 +s&h for 2 rolls of 2"x 60ft long.

I recently bought a 3M traction traction tape. It is clear and seems to be about equal to 60 grit sandpaper. It came in 1 inch, 2 inch, and 4 inch. I bought the 4 inch for the hull sides and cut it as needed. I got it at a local Ace Hardware, where it was sold by the foot. I have a piece left over and the bar code on the backing is 0 51131 59516 3.
Good Luck,

just following up on this thread to say that i applied this gray safety-walk tread to my N5.8 and it has been great. strong adhesive, just the right amount of grip but not so gritty that it hurts your hands or feet. i'm very pleased with it.
