Hello Folks;

We were hoisting the mainsail today and the wire on the main-halyard separated from the rope. Without going to a boatshop, (that costs money) how can I fix that??

if you have or can borrow a swaging (swedging) tool you can put a small thimble or just a loop on the end of the cable and tie the halyard rope (use a bowline knot) to the loop. IF your halyard has approximately equal lengths of wire and cable. make sure the loop and knot are on the front side of the mast.

We shall give that a try. Is there any reason why the main halyard can't be set up like a "normal" boat? Is the whole "hook-thing" just a clever money maker for Hobie or am I missing something?

It allows the sail to be downhauled much more effectively.

It also relieves the halyard of all tension when the sail is downhauled.
