The first of 3 distance races was sailed today for the Trident series trophy. My new MAXI rig Hobie 14 (sqtop main/reacher) was never overpowered in the 8-12kt winds. The distance sailed today was approx 38 miles. It corrected over I20s(Brian Lambert and Kirk Newkirk) and an ARC22. The main just fit the 5% rule and the reacher is about 120sqft. I also took an additional hit for an all alum mast. Total number with adjustments is 82.0. I wonder what a Hobie 16 with this rig would do??? HHMMMMMM......

That sounds incredible. Have any pics of that setup.
Great job correcting over the big boats.
I am sailing a H16 with mylar square top main. Love it and really think it makes a big difference. Now you have me thinking about what a cool hooter type sail could do on it.
Fun to take an older boat, do some simple updates and make it a gaint killer.
Good luck in the other races.

I had Sabre Sails build my sails. They hit the reacher right out of the bag! A 16 would be a lot of fun especially crewed with 2 people.

Bob, that is COOL! The H14 is such a great boat, but hugely unappreciated by most cat sailors...How 'bout some photos?

Why don't people say "A Nacra 5.0 with a reacher would be great"? ha ha ha...
