Real Newbie Questions
Hi all
This weekend I will be picking up a Hobie 16 which I purchased on ebay for 800 bucks.
My only sailing experience was in february when i went down to negril and sailed in i think a hobie 14. Thats all i needed and i got hooked. First thing i did when i got home is start to look for one and now im about to get it.
Now for the questions:
1 what book or video would you guys reccomend i read/watch that will give me all the neccessary terms and info regarding hobie sailing
2 i will probably be sailing solo for the most part is that ok being a begginer, i weigh 260 lbs, so i think capsizing shouldnt be a prob for me (or is it?)
3 anyone know of events or clubs on the north shore of long island
thanks for any help
niko
One of the best resources for new Hobie (and any other cat sailor for that matter) is to join NAHCA and request a copy of The Hobie University Booklet. It is not as flashy as some of the other books, but has some excellent info for newbies. I'm quitw sure that ther are other good sources, but I know this one is good.
North Shore Long Island try:
At 260 righting the boat should be no problem if there is enough wind to capsize. I would recommend trying with some assistance standing by a few times. If you have any trouble carry a water bag for a little extra weight. I'm ~ 180 and have no problem righting the boat with the BAG.
Goo sailing
