I'm new to H16's, just bought one. What a blast this boat is to sail.

I've seen several H16's that look to have a piece of 10

PVC (or some kind of pipe/tube), about 10' long, mounted on their trailer to stow sails and boom when not in use. I have also sometimes seen ads for used H16's with

sail tube

on the trailer. Anyone know of a source for these? I tried a few plumbing stores for 10

PVC but the price I get isn't a whole lot cheaper than just going out and buying the trailer toy box from Hobie. (Plus I have to buy a 20' piece, which doesn't help.)

Anyone know any alternatives? I guess I could just build a plywood box but the tubes look a lot better idea.

Thanks!

Congrats on your new Cat! There are companys that sell just PVC tubing. There are different thicknesses of the tubing also. Since your sails wont be stored at 140 PSI you don't need schedual 40 PVC(the thick stuff) that is the most expensive. I have a standing order at one company in town for any damaged sections of the stuff that they sell at a great discount. I have purchased sections like that in 6',10' and 12' lenghts that only cost me $20.00 or a little more. Shop smart and you will come across a deal that will fit your pocket book and your trailer.

Tony,

I made a plywood box for my sails. The reason I did this is because I also use it for the other stuff. Life jackets, spare parts etc. Plus I can open the whole top to see inside. When I take the boat on long trips I remove the rudders and store them in there also. You would be suprised at what other stuff fits and it is not that big of a box.

Tony, try irrigation supply stores, I purchased an 18" dia. tube that I can carry two complete sets of sails in. the price was around $30.00.
