Don't know much about these boats but I'm thinking of getting something I can single hand on a brisk day and right by myself if necessary. Can one trap out with a Wave?
Hiking out is all that is necessary. For most Waves, except the very latest made, the sheet hooks up behind the tiller bar. Therefore, a standard type of tiller extension could not be used. It could with the newer version rudder system.
Otherwise, when trapping you would have no extension. There is a way to do it, though. Use aluminum tubing that runs from one side to the other, bend it up to your liking on each side. That way when you tack you do not switch the tiller extension, just grab the other side and trapeze.
The boat is awesome in heavy air even without the trapping.

No trapeze. If the wind is so heavy that you have to trapeze, you are going to have more problems than just holding the boat down.
We sailed a race in Lake Eustis in gusts to 45 mph and no one had a problem holding the boat down going to weather. The problems began when heading downwind.., not enough bow out there to keep from pitchpoling in such heavy winds.
So, started broad reaching downwind (instead of straight downwind) with the main all the way out and hiked way back and aft (that way you can get your weight back far enough.
I never would have had time or opportunity in that situation to trapeze.
Now, add the Hooter System to the boat
