[#10249]

I would like to propose the following addition to our constitution:

Under2, add D as follows:

2. Objective:

D. To promote, develop, fund, administer, and

sanction either directly or by joint-venture, programs

that expand, educate or foster multihull sailing

opportunities for youth, athletes, and disabled

persons.

I guess we need to call for a vote of some kind. Tim, think this is your baby. Do we only need the Board, or do we need a vote of all members.

It would appear to me that we now need a vote of all members.

If so, it would be nice to get on it.

Thanks

Rick

OK, I think I have it.

Here is the skinny on changing the bylaws:

Amendments:

a. Changes to the bylaws

i. May be made at any regular or special meeting, providing there is a quorum, by a two-thirds vote of the membership present including absentee ballots or proxy votes.

ii. Proposed changes must be presented to the NAMSA (via web site posting or in writing) at least 30 days prior to the vote and must be seconded by at least ten (10) current members.

iii. Become effective during the "New Business" section of the current meeting, unless specified in the motion.

So, we need to set up a special meeting and give 30 days notice on doing so.

I will post on the NAMSA Forum and on the NAMSA Website the changes to be made and a date for the meeting. Also, I believe the meeting can be done on the internet.

So, the best way I can think of is to specify a given day for a vote and have all the members that are present that day vote on the issue.

Or, if we have the email addresses of all members, we could email them and have them vote by return email.

Any problems, or better yet, any suggestions on how to do this.

Rick

All members' emails should be in the database, Rick. Shouldn't be hard to get everyone to answer. Email 'em and set a deadline for reply

Wonderful that we have that info.

Whoever is in charge of the database, let me know. I will write up a proposal for the rule change and you can email the ballots and collect the votes.

And who would that be? Hmmmm?

I think I've created a monster here. That would also fall onto me to generate the email list since I'm the database guy. That's an easy one though and I'll build an automated function in the database for this. Send me the information and I'll generate the email for now.

First take a look at Mailloop. This is a great mailing program that sifts out email addresses and does merges, etc.

Let me know if you need it.

Rick,

How do we tally the votes? Does someone just keep a running count of the email replies? We could get Tim to help set us up an Access database on the web site that people could log into to and place their vote (login using first and last name together and their membership ID or something). Conversly, I could output a form with all current members listed and a bold title referencing the voting issue for which the score keeper could check of yes and no for each person as the votes come in.

I like the idea of voting on a site better than the email idea.

Anybody out there have any ideas on how to do that? I will check my resources and see what I can find as well.
