Another New Committee and Chair Appointment!
No one is allowed to catch their breath around here. So here we go.
I have just appointed Mike Hill as Chairman of the Regions Committee.
The reason for the formation of this committee is to investigate how and where we can break up North America in to Regions.
Some suggestions have been to use Regions similar to US Sailing, Some say Hobie, some say the way Catamaran Sailor has their Events Page broken down.
Whatever, we need to get this down and working. We then can set up Regional Points Regattas and Championship Regattas, perhaps even ladder events, i.e., Reps from each Region being represented in a National Event (for Youth, Women, Open, etc.)
In other words, we need to get our Regions started asap.
Mike is already the US Sailing Area K Rep (MIdwest) and knows a good many folks from around the country. He is a very good choice for the position.
I am sure Mike will be on this Forum soon getting things organized.
Thanks,
Rick
Rick,
Thanks for the undeserved positive introduction. I actually did find this forum.
Just got back from Performance Midwinters. Wow what a great racing venue. That was some great racing.
Anyway I thought a good way to start is to contact chapter representatives. Can you send me a list of chapters and there reps?
I'm currently leaning toward the US Sailing boundaries since there are 10. Hobie has like 16 which might be tough to get started. My thought right now is to try to start a NAMSA championship event in each region. We can work toward points later maybe. I'll be looking for input on tweaking the area's to make them fit the sailor's.
The other thought I had was to split into numerous areas that use current clubs already in place. Such as CRAM as an area. CRAW as an area. OCRA as an area. You get the idea. That would make for a lot of different areas but the beauty of it would be they already have the points systems in place and name a fleet champion.
Anyway that's just my rambling for now.
Mike Hill
Region's Chair
And some mighty fine rambling, I must say!
You might also look at the map we have in the magazine for Schedules. That is divided into 8.
However, I believe 10 would be better. On the Catsailor map the Midwest is huge and so is the Mountain States. However, the regattas scheduled are still not as many as Southeastern and South even though those areas are smaller geographically.
The problem with US Sailing so far is the vast geographical area and the abundance of regattas in the southeast (sorry, don't even know my own area Letter).
At any rate, this should be an interesting project.
totally agree with the Regional Championships.
Good luck in your pursuit. I am sure there are plenty of folks on this forum and the Open NAMSA Forum.., and the list of Chapters that are presently in the process of joining that will be willing to serve on such a great committee.
Thanks,
Rick
Bob,
Speaking of Chapters, Sign up IWCA (International Wave Class Assn) as a Chapter for $50 and add another $50 for insurance as we want NAMSA to sanction the Wave National Championships on Dec 2-5 in Key Largo, FL.
You can deduct the cost from what you owe me and I will collect from the Wave Class..
Rest of the info for the Waves
