Good questions, Eric.
Sanctioning: There are a good many groups, i.e., Clubs, Fleets, Classes, etc. around the country that we from here on call Chapters. Good examples of these Chapters are CABB, CRAW, CRAC, et al. They host regattas that have heretofore been Hobie Regattas.
Since Hobie no longer wants anything to do with this except for Hobie Only boats, NAMSA must take over that infrastructure.
And to take those events over, we must sanction them. For example, say the Peachtree Regatta in Lake Canandaigua could be the NAMSA Regional Championships, or just a NAMSA Points Regatta.

SI's: These are the Sailing Instructions that sailors get when they register for an event. They give the sailors such info as how the starts, finishes and marks will be handled, starting sequences, what scoring procedures will be used, how many throwouts, how many races, etc.
We believe that NAMSA should make strong suggestions as to what should be in the Sailing Instructions. We cannot just blueprint them, however, as every Chapter has its own idiosyncrasies and exceptions. That is why we can only give suggestions and options.

NORs: Notices of Race are exactly that. It is a notice to sailors about an event with information about when, where, how, who, etc. and whatever they say in the NOR, they must live with for the event.
So, it is a legally binding paper, not just a come-on advertisement.
Again, we need to be strongly suggestive in this field.

The biggest thing in developing the Sanctioning Packet is insurance. There we must all agree on what we are supplying and offering, the cost, etc. That is Jay's department and I believe he has something almost ready for us to run with.

Thanks for asking, Eric. Any more questions, be sure to get them out here.
Rick

There will probably not be many H Events in the future. That is why we must be there with our sanctioning. In the long run, we should be the one sanctioning every event in North America.
