[#31788]

I found another irritating problem....

Twice now, when typing in a post, something happens that completely erases everything that I have typed.

Arggg!

Could you give a little more info about the circumstances and environment where this happened?

Were you on desktop or mobile? Which operating system? Which Browser? Were you using a mouse or touch screen? That kind of info will help isolate the issue.

Nice setup. While you are typing a post, the system should be saving a draft every 30 seconds. It will save the last four revisions before you click on "Add Reply".

This is one thing I required in the new forum software since I know how aggravating it is to spend time composing a great post, then accidentally click away or close the browser and lose the work.

At any point during making a post, you can also click on the "Save Draft" link to generate a manual backup.

There is even an additional safety feature that if you start a post, and try to click away from the page (like I just clicked on "recent posts", see attached screenshot) you should get a modal verifying that you really want to leave and lose the post contents.

So I'm not sure what was up with your disappeared posts but check that you are seeing the auto-draft backups and if it happens again you should be able to get the content back.

I just did an experiment with this post. I clicked back to the main forum, agreeing to LEAVE and lose the post. Came back to this topic, scrolled down to your post and of course the "leave a reply" was now blank, but it was showing 4 revisions, so I clicked on that and chose the "Restore" link on the newest one and everything came back. Give it a try.

What happened on both instances is that while I was typing my post, the post input 'box' seemed to delete everything that I had typed and then reverted to an empty, original-sized input box.

Silly me, I hadn't noticed the very bottom of the field box below 'Add Reply,' so I don't know if there was any saved drafts.

It hasn't happened since. Just wondering if it was some key combination that I accidentally hit that deleted everything.

Thanks!

Oh no, that sounds frustrating! 😬

A few things to try:

  • Drafts: See if your forum saves drafts automatically - you might be able to recover your text.

  • Browser issues: Try clearing your cache or using a different browser.

  • Extensions: Sometimes browser extensions (like ad blockers) can interfere with text fields.

As a safe habit, you could type long posts in a separate editor

@daviddd excellent answer,  almost suspiciously good. How about introducing yourself so I know you are human, and not a new kind of spam bot?

What and where do you sail?

Hey Damon, I think that I found out the problem.... It was my Razer Basilisk mouse. I must have bumped the side-buttons that I had not re-purposed.... they were programed for next page, reload page, previous page.

Sorry!

Arrrrggg!
