I did a bunch of searching on this site but not much info. Catsailor site had a bunch of hits, but obviously not accessible, so here are some questions.
About the Goodall C2 I may be purchasing:
The owner indicated that the previous owner (she has had two owners so far) had replaced the mast after it was hit by lightning. Don't know if the mast was upright on the rigged boat or not. I've seen lightning damage on large fiberglass sailboats (yachts) with the typical results of pinholes in the bottoms where the electrical energy went to ground.
The owner of this C2 also said that he has applied gel-coat to seam cracks (oh wonderful!). I looked under each trailer hull pad and rollers and the hull looked and sounded solid with my knuckle-knocks -- no 'thud' like it might sound if it had water-soaked foam. Knocking on random areas of the hulls sounded ok with consistent tones.
Questions:
1) Are the C2's hull laminate matrix of polyester, vinylester, or is it epoxy (as are the viper and Akurra)?
2) What weight should the hulls, beams, and tramp (all combined) be? The boat is on a trailer, so I could weigh one side of the boat at a time, slightly suspended off the trailer by a scale underneath.
-Thanks!

Have you talked with Jill at Fun in the Sun or Red Gear Racing?  Great resource for these questions and she will know the history of that C2.

Just FYI, all of the Catsailor forum topics and posts are here and searchable. Unfortunately for now, the links that come up on Google won't lead here but they soon will, as Google re-indexes the site.

In the meantime you can use the advanced search here, and even narrow the search to the catsailor archives.

Here is a post about a lightning strike from there.
