If the casting were galvanized it'd be 50 lbs. of steel. Nobody uses anything but anodized aluminum, which I suppose looks superficially similar.
Be sure to get Nyloks, and if the bolts look any less than wonderful, replace them too - that stuff just isn't very expensive.
My ESPN senses a reply on its way regarding the evils of using box store stainless (and aluminum) on a beachcat! 😀ÂPosted by: @jonathan162Be sure to get Nyloks, and if the bolts look any less than wonderful, replace them too - that stuff just isn't very expensive.
The bolts look in good shape so I reused them. They also sell grade 8 but I think that's a bit of overkill. They have the nyloks stainless nuts so that's what went on there. Now onto the dolphin striker. I got the H14 aftermarket kit that uses a cable vs. a rod. The cable looks pretty slack. Is that normal? I have both eyebolts as tight as I'm comfortable getting them. Any tighter and I risk breaking the corner castings. They all have nyloks nuts as well.

Double-Huh? "ESPN"? And what's wrong with Home Despot hardware in non-critical (i.e. non-high-strength) applications?

Funny Movie Quote: ESPN instead of ESPÂ
If it tightens under load, that would mean the front beam is bending...bad (what the striker is supposed to prevent).Posted by: @redtwinAny ideas on the somewhat slack dolphin striker? Will it tighten up once I rig it all up?
I have no experience with the cable system, but dogboy (who knows way more about the Hobies than most of us) posted above that he wasn't happy with it's lack of stiffness, and his DIY rod looks sweet. Otherwise, maybe have a slightly shorter cable made?
