[#21092]

They won the area D north alter cup qualifier this weekend at Nigels place. From what I hear almost complete bulletes for the weekend except when the skipper got crazy being the first boat to the finish and hit the committee boat.
I know they beat some really good F18 sailors, so way to go.

Agreed!!! One heck of an achievement. 5 firsts, 2 thirds and a throw out DNS/DNC/DSQ (they competed in the throw out, but swapped boats with an F18 before the start). I don't know any details about elapsed and corrected times, yet.

Very Cool. Are the results/story up anywhere? I heard that Nigel was going to borrow a F16, does anyone know if that happened?

Ohh Jody !

How profetic your words on 30 aug 2007 after cancelling the first attempt at Area-D were :

Olie will just kick butt again.

Massively impressive. Now there is no doubt whatsoever, Olli is king as he won this qualifier both times within a months time !

Maybe Joanna will give us a full report....

But I THINK that Nigel/Tammy were on a F18 for the regatta, but they sailed Ollie/Joanna's boat in the last race. Ollie/Joanna sailed the F18 in the last race.

Well Olie is a damn good sailor and his crew is very good also (very impressive considering how short a time she has been sailing).
Nigel did not end up on the F16. Not exactly sure why, maybe logistics of getting the boat to the regatta, but he was on the infusion. Was told by olie that they switched with nigel and tammy on a race for the f18. Olie said nigel liked the boat, notice some areas for us to work on as far as the mast setup (was bending more to the side then back, so we are gonna play with the spreader rake some).
Olie did mention that he noticed that in the 5 knot wind the blade was up there with the f18, around 7-8 knots the f18s started to move away, but then when it picked up more to 10 or so the blade was just as fast or more. maybe some changing of gears difference there or is can someone explain this by weight and power differences of the boat?
Well anyway now to sail on the f18 they need to gain some weight, so time to make em eat a lot of fried snickers.

Jody-Thanks for the compliment. <img src=

This weekend was the best sailing all season. Saturday we had wind just under 10knots with a few higher gusts all day and were able to get in 6 races. Each btw 30-50 mins each. We corrected into first for 5 races--real time being VERY close. I remember that in one race we were exactly one min behind Wick on the I20 and in front of the F18's. The third race of the day we came across the line first but then snagged the anchor line of the committee boat. Unfortunately we couldn't get the dagger board up and got pulled into the committee boat. Finally we got free and had to refinish. So we took a third in that race. (Next time we will know to go back around faster) The dagger board has some

bite

marks from the line but we saved the hulls from going under the bow of the house boat. <img src=

/> By the end of the day we had 5 points (the RC thew out the lowest score on everyone) and second place had 14 points.

Sunday Nigel asked if we would like to trade the Infusion for the Blade the last race and just use it as a through out. The wind was lighter and we took a third (I think-but no lower for sure) then traded boats. The RC took times on the boats but DSQ'd us for the race. We corrected to 5th and Nigel corrected to first. Jake has been collecting all the real times to submit-so let all work through the system.

It was a great time by all and thank you Nigel and Tammy for opening your home for us to use. Also a huge thanks to the RC and Mr Ernie for his work in getting things together.
