The second race in the Trident Series, The Great Bay Race , will be held June 28, 2003 in Fort Walton Beach , Fl. This Saturday only event will be hosted by the Choctawhatchee Multihull Assoc. and the Fort Walton Yacht Club.This event has a 25 year history of providing an excellent venue in the beautiful Choctawhatchee Bay with the steady southwest sea breeze filling in for what is usually double trap conditions. The event this year will forego a complete trip to the end of the Bay and back ...instead it will be in a steeple chase format and will consist of a 20-30 mile route around the Bay and a diversion out the Destin Pass to the Seabouy and back. After the racing is over enjoy a cookout at the Yacht Club gazebo on the Point with kegs, beverages, and a great ribeye steak cookout with all the trimmings. The race will start and finish off the point at the Yacht Club and there is plenty of grassy areas and beach to rig on....those that arrive early have the best choices. Checkin is set for 9am with the Skippers Meeting to follow at 10am and the race to start tentatively set for 11am. Expected finish time is late afternoon so there will be plenty of time to derig and enjoy the great dinner and trophies before heading out. Overnight storage is available as well as camping on the point area if you want to arrive early or stay late...and enjoy sailing on the areas finest waters awhile longer. The entry fee for this years event is $30 and will include commemorative race flags, tee shirts, the steak cookout , trophies and beverages....and a guaranteed world class fun day for all. The full Yacht Club facilities are available which include hot showers after the days racing so pack up that boat and we will see you Saturday June 28 !
