Up Next: Hirams Haul (Central FL)
This a short (25 mile) distance race to Captain Hiram's Restaurant and Tiki Bar where we will stay overnight then race back in the morning. There will be live music Saturday night and plenty of opportunities to earn a boot in the nuts from the wife, fiancé, girlfriend, life partner or whatever... Yes Mary this is a very sexist post, and I'm at a good place with it.
The course is on the sheltered waters of the Indian River Lagoon and offers several navigational opportunities. There will be two starts with the spin boats starting 30 minutes after the non-spin boats.
When it really gets down to brass tacks this race is just an excuse to go sailing before a kick a$$ party and Sunday is just a test to see who can sail the quickest hung over.
It's also Matt and Gina's anniversary so you know that girl is going to be off the chain and that alone should be a good enough excuse to go.

ANNOUNCING THE
13TH ANNUAL HIRAM'S HAUL
OCTOBER 16th AND 17th
You're positive these are the dates? I thought it was Halloween weekend.
Some of us tried but it's not to be this year. Probably for the better, I'm still paying for the trouble that Mr. Moss got me into last year. Damn A cat drivers, rif raf every single one of them.
Mark just told me last night he was driving his A-cat.
Damn A cat drivers, rif raf every single one of them.
Still didn't answer my question: Anyone interested in the Spot tracking?

Speaking of Mr. Moss. I'm trying to resurrect one of his favorite regattas from back in the day and that could happen as early as February. What do you folks have planned that month?
I'm thinking something similar to the Mug Race or Hiram's. But beginning and ending in the same spot.
So, if I come to Hiram's who will come down here?

<img src="<>/laugh.gif" alt="laugh" title="laugh" height="15" width="15" /> For the truly adventurous, you could race from the beach at Charlotte Harbor to the beach at N. Ft. Myers or vice-versa.
It's about 35 miles by car, twice that over the water, maybe more.
Back in the day, the event I'm refering to was called the Edison Pageant of Light Regatta and was a triangular course all class regatta staged from a small beach in N. Ft. Myers.
As mentioned, this is a long way from being a done deal.
Hi Pete,
As Ding stated, you need to see what other events are planned but we need another event for the Endurance Series and an event on the West coast of Florida would be great. I also like the two day long distance format similar to HIRAM'S IN A WEEK AND A HALF. Makes it worth the trip.
My life is starting to get a little more manageable with the kids being at almost three and four and a half and work starting to trickle back in. I can help you with the event if you want.
Speaking as a non-sailor, Hiram's Haul is definitely the event to attend.
With its protected water, easy course (the first year I did it with a
chart
which was actually a placemat from a local restaurant and read NOT FOR NAVIGATION) and readily identifiable start and finish (well, it's identifiable if you're not in whiteout rain conditions and your skipper's instructions were
we don't need GPS, just follow the M20..
which broke down at the start), this race is workable in all but hurricane conditions.
Singlehanders race, and on a few occasions, won. Odd boats have sailed (P-15, Hobie Getaway, etc) so there's really not much excuse to have... If it sails, you will have a good time here at Hiram's.
The finish / start areas are nice and grassy giving you plenty of room to set up/break down. I believe the organizers send a truck down with all the wheels for everyone.
Short a few parts, you say? It just so happens that a dealer is 50 meters away with lots of stuff (even complete boats if you show up and forgot to tie down your boat before you left)
No idea how to rig that
Whomper
on your Wave? Chances are someone else there has one and can show you. If not, esteemed Frankenboat engineer should be in attendance to cut your lines too short.
The host hotel is quite nice and the festivities usually end up right across the street at the bar (giving all the more fervor to the festivities).
If Gina's
off the chain
then I suggest all video/audio recording devices be confiscated.
And not that I would know, but that trophy really looks cool... lots of names you would recognize on there...
doooooo iiiiiitttt...
Oh, and I forgot to mention that the folks that live along the course are generally friendly and will help get your boat out of the water if it breaks. That's two boot-inna-nutz for Karl.
Hey Jay,
I am not racing but wife and kids will be in tow and we are staying at Hiram's Saturday night. My kids have been getting plenty of seat time on the ole Supercat. That is part of the reason I am not racing this year. Didn't see you on the online entry list, are you going to be there this year?
I am planning on doing some video work and will try to sneak some videos of Gina!!!
