Barberhauler question
I am confused by the setup of the barberhauler on my 6.0. I have one (1) line running through the front beam, and coming out at each end through a cam cleat.
To lock it in position, you must have the leeward part of the sheet OUT of the cleat and you must cleat it IN on the windward side...
The difficulty I am having is that if you forget to take it OUT of the cleat (on the old windward side) before a tack or a gybe (e.g. at a mark rounding), then you have to have the crew move over again to the (new)leeward side to UNCLEAT it there before you can cleat it in again on the windward side...It's a pain...I'm not getting it.
How are you all setting that up? Will try to get pictures of mine over the weekend but I think it's the standard Mystere setup...
Bob - I can see you may not use it if you sail downwing with a chute. Is that your case? But if you don't sail a chute, wouldn't you use the barberhauler to increase the job angle downwind?
Down here everybody is tacking downwind when they have to. The wind is mostly perpendicular to the shore so it's a tack out and tack back to the beach. Not many here use the b.h. but I know it's criss crossed and cleated on the opposite side of the jib tack so your crew or you can control it from the high side.Even the "cheese slicer "wire across the tramp for the jib for and aft position is starting lose its popularity and most N6.0 sailors cleat the jib cam block on the track car itself not dealing with the inside outside just set it and forget it.If you or your crew know how to keep adjusting this good otherwise it will just screw with your mind in competition and you could knock your beer over on any other day. Success Catius and set it up to see if it's something you need.I do not have the Spi on the boat yet hopefully soon. P.S. I bought a six of Stella Artois and I concur it is a good beer. good luck Bob Grubb..........
I have a B.H. rigged for my jib. It goes under the tramp and is adjustable only from the oppisite side. Not stock. I use it when I'm not using the chute and I don't fully pull it in. Once I'm basically set on course I'll pull it in until the top telltale is breaking with or just before the bottom. Usually that's less than a foot in.
Also that wire was the first thing I took off my boat when I got it. I use a 3/16 vectran line instead. I can crawl across it and don't even know it's there.
