[#20489]

The recent post about getting a replacement lower casting prompted me to start a new thread since this is applicable to all of us.

As you probably know, Mystere Canada's website is gone. I heard that the company was sold. However, I searched and found that Yves Sansoucy has continued to run his sailing school, École de voile Sansoucy.

I contacted them them by phone and spoke with his daughter, Kim Sansoucy, who told me (in very acceptable English) that parts for Mystere beachcats are available through their company. She emailed me an old parts list which I will try to attach in another note. Here are several quotes from her concerning my interest in buying an UPPER casting:

David Parker is very helpful and he has done me a great favor in the past. Thanks again David.

As for the parts, you might want to ask about whether or not it will be annodized.

The parts that Mystere sold me where non-annodized and have been deteriorating ever since.

A little time has passed and now I have to ask, did it really work? Did they answer the phone and speak English? Did they quote you a price and confirm USD vs $CDN? Did they actually HAVE the item you want? And bottom line, do you have it in your hand yet? When (if?) you actually get the parts let us know about the material they are using to make the new castings. Is it anodized? Etc...

I assume you needed the lower casting you mentioned in your other thread. That old stuff was made of some cookie-like crispy aluminum. If you order the bottom you should order the top as well. We have far more breakage of the top casting than the bottom casting. That stainless saddle inside the upper casting rots out the aluminum where you can't see it until disaster.

Yes. But I also speak French and it made things easier.

Yes. I got a price. I think if you buy in Canada you should be able to deal with their currency. So I got it in $CDN.

Yes and Yes. But it took a few calls back and forth. Make sure you get a hold of Kim Sancoucy. She is the one who makes things happen.

Not sure if it is anodized. It seems to be painted in some sort of bronze/gold color.

I'm pretty sure that's anodized. The newer mast, beams, and castings all have that color. That comment is only by observation since I have all old painted stuff. I have castings that are blue! Not sure if its painted since it has not flaked like all of the white painted stuff does.
