Need Mystere 5.0 Advice
I just bought a Mystere 5.0. It has a few things that I ma not to familiar witih. One, the mast seems tootate on a ball , bit the previous owner had it set up with a metal to metal joint. Shouldn'th there be a teflon disc or other lubrication in there?
Two, I want to remove the end plates off of the crassbars to refurbish the finish. How is this done? I don't seem to get it. Maybe they are to be pryed off?
Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.
Wait just a second before you go a prying and then a crying there Que N. The bolts towards the outside end are the ones that you loosen to get the end caps off . They are also compression fittings so you can crank down the bolts without denting the beam but not to much cranking ok.And you can change any trap lines you have running through the beam at this time too. The mast step ball I am guessing does not have the half bearing but is one solid piece. My mast has a stainless piece about the size of a 50centUS coin riveted inside the mast base but I guess if it did not interfere with raising the mast detail then it would cut down on the metal to metal action. Success DSYC.......
Thanks for the advice...
The mast ball is a single piece, and now I realize that there is a disc in the (stainless?) base of the mast. It looks like the previous owner may have used somthing like trailer axel grease in this important joint. Does that seem to you like the way to lube this joint or is there some better plan of action?
Also I have emailed that factory looking for a set up manual and or some sort of catalog. I haven't received a response as of yet. Should I try french? Does any one on the forum have a hard copy to copy if I still cannot contact the manufacturer?
Thanks for your help...
I have the same set up on my boat. I don't like using grease so I use a H-16 delrin mast chip. I stick it in there right before raising the mast. I'll get a couple weekends of use out of one. You could upgrade to the super ball which has a real bearing. That would require replacing the mast base.
