The new Mystere International . . .
Hello,
Sorry for the delay in my post. I've been with Yves and
his crew at the factory today to look at some improvements
in my boat and the teams new factory.
First,
My apologies for not responding sooner. I'm in Aerospace
and I haven't been in town (or Country).
Ok Second,
I think maybe Yves is on the right track. I've seen
a completely motivated "factory" staff, one hell of a solid
commitment to our sport, and the smart's to use our
sailing technology "where possible" to the good of other
ventures, ie people first projects (eg bullet vest's
etc.) this is really commendable.
Where are these guy's.
Well I've seen their business approach.
I can tell you that I've seen a very committed crew, and some very impressive technology.
Know what, I've seen some comment's on this forum that
are all over the map. Too bad,I've seen a committed
group, a new factory, a cross functional use of technology,
and timelines that (unfortunately) are a result of our
climate (sorry fiberglass moves in Quebec are not the
same as in the US).
This all said, give 'em a chance.
After today, I'm not selling my Mystere - no way -
Once they're settled in I'm confident that we'll not
be having the same conversation in a month or two.
As for the couple of other post's to my attention personally
"Good Agent sr803287u3fop7 everything is going as I have it"
... if your comment's are toward me with malice -> why ?
Anyway, I've had a good day and visit.
Best Regards
Steve
Sorry to Cross post,
But I've add to a quote from the main forum ....
"I believe it all comes down to personality types…some are the happiest when they are in the front of a 100 boat fleet…others are the happiest when they are the only boat on the water. Which is better depends on who you ask.
From a business standpoint the Catamaran industry as a whole, is as clueless as it gets. You have a whole industry basically ignoring the general population to focus on what boils down to a select handful of racing enthusiast. Put this in perspective, out of the Hundreds of Millions of people on the planet how many thousands actually race catamarans on a regular basis?…It’s like if Ford and Chevy concentrated all their energy on NASCAR and ignored the millions of people who drive cars everyday for general transportation. And they wonder why they barely stay in business. Duh!
Regards,
Bob"
I Agree, the Mystere team have it right by diverse in
more than one market place. One will feed from the other.
Trust me in Aerospace, this strategy win's.
Regards
Steve
Anyone tried the url lately? Or is there a phone number that has recently worked?
http:/
I broke the black plastic end fitting at the end of my tiller bar this weekend (the part that sit on top of the tiller w.pin)...the result wasn't pretty: capsize + shoulder dislocated as I grabbed on to the dolphin striker when the boat came back up straight. Ask my crew how he got an incapacitated skipper back on the boat. A herculian effort to get 200 pounds out of the water...(I had only 1 arm - my other was dangling in my wetsuit).
Either way: anyone has on of these laying around and want to sell? I hoping to get the boat fixed before my shoulder is fixed.
Thanks!
Damn that's to bad that you had to take a physical beating as well as break the boat tiller connector. And to top it all off the Mystere website now does not have the resources to keep itself going? Or the alternative that it has been suspended? If you can not get that part maybe you can extract the other one and go to a machine shop(Aircraft)they might have a bar of Delrin plastic that can be made in a matter of minutes. I just got my tiller connector done at such a place and I will put the pin in it.Albiet that it is a Taipan rudder system, got it turned very quickly much to my surprise. I also am getting over a painful incident when my boat went over and I struck the inside of the lower hull.It was like when you jam your finger playing football except this was the whole leg which went into schock at least so I could right the boat.Still screwed up after a year, Damn Mysteres are rough on a body . YOU better get well quick as you have the Statue Race on the horizon. Good luck ....Bob G.
Hi Bob (and all),
It's Steve (aka sr072896 ... the work id from Unix).
Anyway I also saw the Mystere International URL message last
night. Anyway I called Yves this morning -at 9:15am (450) 420-1350, and I got him on the first ring.
Needless to say Yves was not happy about the company he has
setting up his new web site.
Anyway, I'm due to drop off my 5.5Xl next week (Fri) for my
spin.
Hopefully Yves has everything straightened out by then. From my first hand experience the factory is getting into gear (maybe less the Web Stuff).
This said I'll keep you posted. And, I'm wondering why anyone is having problems getting a hold of the factory.
I've called and always made contact, or had someone call
back within a couple of hours.
Best Regards
Steve
Hey Steve thanx for chiming in again .Seems that when we try to go to the Mystere website its a blank page for me at least even the Club San Soucy site will not come up.While your at the factory maybe you check to see if the parts for the forward tramp are there too
anyway till next post BobG.
Last week I sent an email to yvess(at)mystere.ca
Two days later I got an answer from mystere(at)mystereinternational.com
However, follow ups sent to mystere(at)mystereinternational.com and to yvess(at)mystere.ca have both bounced with comments of "rejected address" and "Failed MX lookup".
Maybe Yves ought to spank the IT guy.
Maybe Yves ought to spank the IT guy.
Thomas said:
Same here.
Thomas,
Are you saying YOU ought to spank the IT guy or are you saying Yves ought to spank YOU?
Hehe. I meant neither. Yves spanking the IT guy is definitely not the way to go...First, we don't even know if there IS an IT guy. Second, the customer service issues are obviously beyond the reach of the IT guy. Third , I left a message on the above Mystere number on Friday - and I left it in French, just to make sure (they stop working on Friday noon there). Let's just see if I will still be
on Monday or
with a part on the way.
I'm not sure which part you mean. Is it the solid white delrin cylinder that inserts INTO the forward end of 2 foot tiller and holds the 2 inch vertical pin? The plastic end alone was quoted at $18 USD in September '05 so I made new ones out of ash. Wood is great stuff.
The crossbar has metal ends on my 5.0 and I don't have anything of black plastic anywhere on the boat.
Or do you mean the saddle that holds yoke for the tiller extension (ex. Arriba Hot Stick)? Get those from Murray's.
Do you have the parts book? Mine is a few years old but it has photos and part numbers. It's a PDF doc I could send if you want it. It's probably still posted over on the Yahoo Mystere group.
Dave - it's the plastic end that goes on the horizontal tiller crossbar - the $18 part you mentioned. Yes - a parts catalogue would be very helpful...teamcatius@hotmail.com.
If ordering proves it too difficult I would have it made out of solid aluminum. How long do you expect your wooden part to hold up? \
2004 parts book sent via email. I have asked Mystere several times for a new one with no response.
My story went like this...upper casting rotted away due to electrolysis of Al casting and stainless adjuster saddle. My extra upper casting (you DO have extras, right?) had its tiller tube shortened for wings so it had to be replaced. My old tiller tube was frozen in place so I would have to cut it out, destroying it. I got pissed off at Mystere and wouldn't buy a tube from them when they quoted prices 3x higher than on this 2004 price list. I could not find thick walled aluminum tubing with the proper ID and OD so I had to use stainless. It's heavy and had a different ID. Since the ID was different the old delrin (or HDPE) endcap was too small and was bent anyway. I used a piece of ash (or is it teak?) and formed it by hand on a disk sander and 2 beers, not a lathe. How long will it last? I know exactly...it will last until it breaks. The wood is VERY hard and I oil it occasionally. I just hope I don't suffer the same results you did upon parts failure. I'll post a photo of the wooden part.
David,
I'm so sorry that you have had such a hard time with the tillers. And I can remember when you helped me out by machining me some beautiful washers for my rear track. In fact, for everyone's interest, here is one of your first mentions of the washers back in 04.
big square aluiminum "washer" that sits in the traveler track. Mine
have all turned to crud. One is half gone and the rest are nearly
as bad. I guess my hulls could loosen up suddenly! Wow!
In the Mystere parts list I can't be sure what it's called. Part
14.3 is called a rear beam bolt spacer. Is that it? Has anyone
made their own?
Has anyone talked to Mystere lately? They are never there and their
answering machine is in French so....? Are they still doing
business?
I have had just as bad of a time with parts. When I decided to buy the new pivot things that are on the forward end of the tiller bars, they sent replacements that were made of plasic instead of aluminum. The plastic ones shattered less than a year later. And of course when they became even harder to reach and bluntly tripled the price for all parts, I gave up.
I have found some pipe that works perfectly and I'll see if it is still available and send you some. I'm glad for the chance to be able to pay you back for the favor you did for me.
Send me a private message with your mailing address.
GARY
They were once made of aluminum, eh? My plastic ones have bent, "torn", and stretched out of shape. My wooden one is great but I didn't add enough "slop" to allow for mis-alignment of the pin into the crossbar end. I just force it. I would worry about making one of aluminum due to corrosion with the 2 inch vertical stainless pin. Not a problem with wood!
Gary, thanks for the offer of tiller stock but I think I have the problem solved for now. I could probably never get the stainless tubes out of the castings anyway. I will reconsider the tips (Al vs wood) and go with metal if possible. Failure way offshore would be way bad.
With my thick walled stainless tiller tube, perhaps I don't need added tips at all. Maybe I could just drill and tap the tube for the up-pins. Alignment with the cross bar would have to be perfect (no slop, at least) but it could be possible. Tillers would be an inch shorter....hmmmm....
Hey "Steve (alais at work sr072896)"
You seem to be the only one to see and visit the mythical Mystere factory. Can you check and see if there is any future in Mystere Beachcats or parts for them?
I sent several emails last week and they bounced. Resending them this week did NOT get a bounce reply but nobody has answered. Same effect, however.
